Being an empath is such a gift… but it doesn’t always come without ailments. The good news is, we are not helpless! There are soo many tools available we can use to keep our energy protected, flowing and healthy.
Empaths are highly sensitive, intuitive beings who can sense and read the energy of others.
Some say that empaths “absorb” energy, but I don’t quite subscribe to that idea. Instead, I believe empaths can sense energy and sometimes resonate with the particular experiences of others due to some type of synchronicity or similarity.
When an energetic synchronicity or similarity occurs, empaths can feel as if they’ve absorbed something from another person. In doing so, become responsible for transmuting, healing or clearing the vibration of that experience.
The point here being that while yes empaths can literally feel the energy of others, the “absorbing” effect only occurs when energetic boundaries have not been set, or when there is something unraveled in the empath that needs healing or attention.
Your empathy is an ability to read, deeply understand, and yes- even feel the energy of others but, you are not powerless in the sense that you have no say over what is picked up and held by you.
If there are particular experiences, emotions or energies you do not wish to experience from others, there are plenty of tools you can use to drive your experience and maintain healthy boundaries. It is a work in progress but with conscious awareness you can create supportive habits that strengthen your energy management overtime.

If you are a physical empath, or someone who can sense the pain or physical symptoms in others, you might have a harder time with these energetic boundaries and require more physical support. 1. Fatigue
Being a deep feeler with strong intuitive abilities can be exhausting. Even with strong energetic boundaries, healthy habits and years of awareness and attention, it is common for empaths to experience frequent overstimulation that leads to fatigue.
If you’re not mindful, this can turn into chronic fatigue, something I’ve experienced myself.
To manage and prevent this, it is important to pay attention to your energy levels and honor how your body is feeling. Pushing yourself, forcing yourself to show up places when you’re feeling tired, planning too many demanding events or activities within a short time span, and not practicing supportive sleep habits can all be a detriment.
Instead, focus on trying to maintain balance between your doing and your resting. Don’t slip into guilt or self-criticism when you feel you need to rest or maintain boundaries around your energy care.
The pace of the modern world is quite far from what most humans have the natural capacity for. In order to keep up in this world, many rely on stimulants, sugar, stress hormones and other unhealthy things. I’m not shaming those who chose to live fast paced, some individuals actually thrive on more. Some gain more energy from doing and moving. Empaths usually don’t. (unless whats keeping them busy consists of things that truly light them up from the core!)
I bring this up to affirm and shed light on the fact that we do not need to earn rest. We do not need to earn peace. We do not need to earn time to slow down. It can feel this way when everything in our modern world seems to move so quickly.
So dear empath, please rest when you need it. Take care of your energy and practice good self care so that you don’t run the risk of constant fatigue.
The world needs you fresh and energized to the best of your ability.

2. Inflammation
Another common ailment many empaths experience is inflammation. Again, the constant feeling and filtering can create static in our energetic body. Our energetic body is connected to our physical body. That being said, what we experience in our spiritual or energetic body more often than not has physical effects.
When we neglect our self-care and energetic hygiene, we can experience inflammation in the body. Inflammation can cause illness, slow us down, cloud our channel, and cause discomfort.
From a physical body perspective, inflammation points to stagnation in the lymphatic system. We can physically move our lymph with practices like dry-brushing, gua sha, massage or movement.
It’s important to practice physical care like the practices mentioned above in order to keep our lymph moving and avoid inflammation.
Staying hydrated and exercising are both great ways to soothe inflammation as an empath, too.
3. Tension
Being an empath *can be* stressful. I put *can be* in asterisks because I’m a believer in autonomy. We can influence what we experience. Not saying we can control it, which is a very different thing, but we can most certainly influence it.
By creating good structures in our life, understanding how to navigate boundaries and boundary setting, and implementing solid self care rituals and practice we can avoid or minimize tension.
As an empath, you may experience more tension in life if you’re living in misalignment with your purpose or not practicing individuation and remaining in an enmeshed state.

4. Digestive Issues
When empaths don’t have good energetic hygiene (in other words, spiritual self-care) it is common to experience digestive issues.
Our Solar Plexus is known as the seat of our emotions and is located, you guessed it, right in our upper abdomen. As empaths, when we feel the emotions of others in excess, it can create a variety of issues all connected to this area.
