Excited to use the energy of a new year to call in some prosperity and fresh beginnings? Me too! The opportunity for renewal that comes from starting a new year is massive. Channel some of this notable energy into some rituals for new years.
Although the astrological new year isn’t until Aries season (starting in march), the new calendar year that begins in January carries powerful energy for renewal and is a great time for some rituals.
Let’s dive in!
13 Magical Rituals for New Years: Manifest Prosperity in 2023
1. Calculate Your Upcoming Personal Year in Numerology
Curious what kind of energy you’ll hold in the new year? Calculate your personal year number in numerology.
To do so, you simply add up the month of your birth + the day of your birth + the CURRENT year (in this case, the new year= 2023).
For example, for a March 23rd birthday, I would add:
3 + 2 + 3 = 8 (month and day of birth)
2 + 0 + 2 + 3 = 7 (current year)
7 + 8 = 15 (month + day + current year totaled up)
1 + 5 = 6 (double digits that do not repeat are combined)
So a March 23rd birthday will have a 6 personal year in 2023.

2. Cleansing Ritual for New Years
The end of the year is such an ideal time to do some energy cleansing. As we clear and let go of the old, we make space for new, fresh, aligned energy to come through.
There are many ways you can cleanse your energy but some of my favorites are:
- Smoke cleansing with ethically sourced sage or palo santo
- Talking a salt bath
- Doing a cleansing meditation with solfeggio frequencies (I love 528hz)
- Using a sound bowl

3. Releasing with Fire Ritual
Make a list of all the things you’d like to release. This list can be made up of things such as negative habits, toxic mindsets, relationships that aren’t serving us, jobs that aren’t serving us, or cycles that we’d like to close and clear out.
Once your list feels complete, using a fire-safe bowl or cauldron, light your paper on fire. Allow it to burn completely to ash and when finished, bury the ashes or release them into running water (if possible).
I love this little cast iron cauldron with moons on the front, its perfect for a new years burn ritual!
4. Create a Manifestation Box as a Ritual for New Years
I have an entire post on creating manifestation boxes here. To make your own new year’s themed manifestation box, fill a dedicated box (I like to use my carved wooden one) with pictures, notes, objects, tarot cards and whatever else carries the energy of the things you’d like to manifest for the year. I like to add crystals like citrine or rose quartz to help attract good luck to my box.
Place your manifestation box in a safe space like on your altar or under your night stand.
5. Create a Spell Jar
Similar to a manifestation box, a manifestation jar can be created to call in prosperity for the new year. Using things like bay leaf, cinnamon, rosemary, citrine and gold are all powerful items to include in your manifestation spell jar.
6. Add Cash to Your Wallet
Its said that how we begin the new year tends to carry out how we will experience the year in its entirety. For that reason, add some cash to your wallet before the year ends!
By doing so, you may just attract extra cash through out the duration of the new year.
Pro-tip: You can also put a post-it with the number 8 on it in your wallet to attract abundance OR a bay leaf with the number 8 (or even a specific dollar amount you wish to attract) on it.
7. Have a Cacao Ceremony
One of my all time favorite rituals and spiritual tools is ceremonial cacao. You can enjoy a cacao ritual for new years by preparing a cup of it and stirring your intentions (clockwise!) into the cup.
Enjoy it mindfully, and even combine this ritual with another one to amplify its effects.
I recommend Soul Lift Cacao for ethically sourced, genuine Guatemalan cacao.

8. Fill Out a Year’s End Reflection Guide (free download!)
The end of the year is a powerful time to reflect. What things are you proud of from the year? What things challenged you? Try not to judge yourself as you reflect, rather use the art of reflection as an opportunity to view areas for growth and to celebrate your progress.

9. Declutter and Make Space for New Energy
Is there any clutter you’ve been meaning to get rid of? Now’s the time to clear it out! Make donations, toss things out, and organize your temple so that everything has a place and the energy has clear pathways to flow through. (Feng Shui baby! Also read: The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up)
10. Bay Leaf Ritual
I have a full article on this here, but to do a bay leaf ritual for new years, you write down the things you’d like to release (or the things you’d like to call in) on a bay leaf. Once you’ve written down your intentions on the bay leaf, over a fire safe bowl or cauldron, burn you bay leaf all the way until it becomes ash. Rid the ashes by burying them in the earth or releasing them into running water.
11. Smoke Cleanse Your Home
New Year’s Eve is a great day to smoke cleanse your home. Using ethically sourced sage or palo santo, light your cleansing smoke and allow it to carry out all the old, stagnant energy from 2022. Be sure to open a window afterwards and give all of that smoke + old energy a place to exit.
12. Mop Your Floor Ritual for New Years
Another great way to cleanse out any stagnant energy in your life is by mopping your floor. You can add cleansing oils like clary sage, wild orange, lemon or peppermint. (Shop my Favorite Essential Oils Here)
13. Make a Pine Cone Wish Ornament
To make a pine cone wish ornament, you’ll need a pine cone, some paper and a pen. On small strips of paper, write down your different wishes and either roll or fold them into small pieces that can be stuck inside the crevices of your pine cone.
Pine cones are one of the best examples in nature of sacred geometry and natures patterns. Utilizing this energy within the pinecone is a great way to supercharge your new year’s wishes!
When complete, set your pine cone on a windowsill you see often, or upon your altar.
Happy new year! Wishing you an abundant, joyful and peaceful 2023.
