Ceremonial Grade Cacao is a wonderful gateway into the portal of your heart.
When you prepare a cup of cacao- stirring your intentions into it as it melts, calling in the spirit of the plant, and surrendering to the guidance it offers, you can gently begin an energetic transformation. As you sip, effortlessly step into the version of you that is grounded, flowing and blissful. (thanks, theobromine!)
I also go over how to prepare cacao and have your own cacao ceremony or ritual in this post here: Awakening Tools: Using Cacao Ceremony to Open the Heart Chakra
In this guide I’ll go over the best ceremonial grade cacao offerings and where you can get them.
I only work with and recommend ceremonial grade cacao that is sourced ethically and not only supports but is blessed by the same indigenous people who prepare the cacao.
My favorite cacao (and in my opinion- the best ceremonial grade cacao) is sourced from Guatemala and directly supports indigenous farmers and collectives. Learn more about it here.
“Soul Lift Cacao is one of the only U.S. companies providing true ceremonial cacao, roasted over a wood fire by mayan indigenous people and sent to us with their full blessing.” -Soul Lift Cacao
Best Ceremonial Grade Cacao
Soul Lift Cacao is without a doubt my favorite company to purchase cacao from and indeed the best ceremonial grade cacao. I’ve tried several others- and though the magic of cacao is always undeniable- there is something special about Soul Lift.
Maybe it’s the magic of small batch preparation, the traditional processing it receives being roasted over a wood fire, or the energy of sacred respect that goes into every aspect of this cacao, from pods to paste.
The energy of “soul medicine” intentions are transparent and distinguishable within each cup.
Anyway you put it- the difference can be tasted and I love knowing EXACTLY where it came from, and the process it underwent before making it to my ritual.
This allows me to give thanks to each step of its journey- from tree to cup.
Soul Lift Cacao has a variety of options to choose from. Some come in the form of ceremonial paste, some pre-ground with spices and/or coconut sugar, all of them are delicious.
I’ll go over some of my favorites!
As you’ll see, there’s quite a few different options when it comes to the best ceremonial grade cacao.
Some come pre-ground, some remain in a block for you to chop yourself. I usually have some of each in my cabinet- varying cacao percentages so I have something to match each moment.

If you prefer something pre-ground, these are my favorite options:
Gateway 55% Dark– I always have a bag of this one on hand. It’s mine (and my wifes) favorite to drink on the day to day when we need a dose of cacao. Its premixed with coconut sugar so you really don’t have to do much to it in terms of sweetening. I usually just prepare 2TBSP of this with hot water and a splash of milk, froth and enjoy. Discount code: “BLOOM”
Pre-ground Heart of the Earth– similar to Nana Marin’s cacao above, this option is also pure 100% cacao so you may have to sweeten it if it’s too strong for you. This cacao is more smooth and chocolatey- one of my favorite varietals! Discount code: “BLOOM”

If you prefer to have the experience of chopping up your cacao:
Heart of the Earth (Ruk’u’x Ulew) 100% Pure Ceremonial Cacao Paste Block– mentioned this one above, however this option comes in a block that you can chop up yourself. The process of chopping it yourself is fun and enhances your connection to the cacao- highly recommend. You can cut it all up at once and store it in a mason jar or airtight container (shown below). Discount code: “BLOOM”
Nana Marina’s Tz’utujil 100% Pure Ceremonial Cacao Paste– also mentioned above, this is the block paste form of Nana Marina’s 100% pure ceremonial cacao. Discount code: “BLOOM”
Lavalove 100% Pure Ceremonial Cacao Paste– this one is 100% pure ceremonial grade cacao as well, however does not come pre-ground so you have to chop/grind it yourself. This Lavalove is a beautiful ceremonial grade cacao option that serves as a powerful healing medicine. It has a floral aroma and nutty aftertaste- and literally tastes sacred. You can’t go wrong with any of these options really! Discount code: “BLOOM”
If you prefer something already flavored, sweetened or spiced:
Ritual MILD 70% Dark– This ceremonial grade cacao is more potent than the “Gateway” option listed above, but still very drinkable without having to do much to it. Cayenne pepper (and coconut sugar) is included in this blend. Cayenne is a great spice to combine with cacao in order to amplify its spiritual effects, and also adds an enjoyable flavor profile.
Cherry Amor 48% Dark– if you’re looking for a sweet treat that will also open your heart chakra and get you feeling blissful, this is for you. Cherry amor is a blend of single-source Guatemalan cacao blended with evaporated tart cherry juice and sweetened with coconut sugar and natural vanilla- it is delicious. Plus, you get a natural boost of antioxidants from the cherries! (as if cacao didn’t have enough health benefits)

A few other materials you may need:
Once you choose your ceremonial grade cacao, you may need a few other items to amplify your experience working with it. Here’s a list of my favorite items that I use in cacao ceremony and preparation.
Milk Frother– not everyone finds it necessary to use a frother when preparing their cacao, but I however find it an essential step in getting the perfect amount of abundance bubbles in my cacao mug.
Ceremonial Ceramic Mug– having a dedicated ceremony mug is a great way to get your energy into mindful ceremony mode. These ones from etsy are gorgeous, but there are tons of other options.
Electric Water Kettle– if you don’t have one already, these are a must! Makes it so much easier and cleaner to use an electric water kettle to heat the water for your cacao. Not only that but these are great to have on deck for pour over coffee or tea.
Airtight Storage Container– especially if you purchase the ceremonial grade cacao paste block (as opposed to the pre-ground) having a specified airtight container to store it in is a must. You can also use a mason jar- either one will work.
Hopefully one of these options spoke to you- cacao has a way of doing that! You may feel drawn to try one option over the other, if so- lean into that!
Let me know which one you decide on, and don’t forget to use discount code “BLOOM” when shopping at Soul Lift.
XOXO
